It's is officially second semester and the time has to come to reflect on the past and progress through the future. We all make ambitions, but its those who apply themselves and carry out those ambitions, that make it to the top. "Anything is possible if you want it bad enough"

Weekly Report 1/22/18 to 1/28/18

This past week was the my first mentor visit which was basically an overview of the ISM program and the requirements. Since Dr. Braga had already been through the process once with a Liberty student who is also mentoring, I didn’t go into too much detail on addressing the ISM guidelines. The first visit was essentially just a brief overview that lasted around thirty minutes. Dr. Braga asked about he original work portion and the pediatric glioma treatment plan was explained briefly. He said that he had a glioma operation of Friday, however, due to children’s medical center Dallas protocol, there are multiple health tests and paperwork that must be completed prior to being able to observe any surgeries, rounds, clinics, or scans.

This week was essentially a way to reflect on the original work through the original work assessment which encompassed a comprehensive overview over everything that was covered in the original work. From this I was able to reflect on how much significance my original work held and if the goals set at the beginning of the project has been reached. The original work speech is approaching and the year is progressing faster has any of us had imagined. Within two weeks, the final product set up is due which means that I must have an idea for my final product as soon as possible. The goal is to make it as inspirational as possible and to ensure that it is something with some sort of impact on the community.

With time going by so fast, it is important to start going on mentor visits whenever possible. Due to hospital protocol, my mentor visits may be delayed; however, mentor visits can still happen in Dr. Braga’s office to discuss final product ideas. The year started off oriented towards something related to stem cell research; however, I am unsafe of how much of that can be accomplished in such a short period of time. The ultimate goal is to create something to inspire and enhance the files of Neurosurgery.

Overall, the next couple of week look forward to shadowing opportunities to watch surgeries in action and be able to get clinical insight into precinct history. The real life experience portion has really just started and here is so much more to come with the next couple of week being immensely busy. As the year comes to the final countdown it is important for us to keep with dates and begin to formulate a timely pattern to what is to be accomplished in the near future. With ambitions of making a difference, this could be my first step.
