What is life? Who gives life meaning?

Weekly Report 9/24/18 to 9/30/18

It is very easy for me to get caught up in a routine of trying to make everything perfect. At heart, I am a true perfectionist to the point where it drives me insane. However, sometimes it is important to take a step back and think what is the meaning of life. To some it may be finding happiness, to others it might be making a fantasized life their reality. Possibly, it’s too early to have a set purpose, but what I do know if that my goal is to inspire, create, and “make the world a better place” even by the smallest increments. Nevermore, has this struck my mind until this past week.

The past week in ISM has been relatively busy with interviews, getting prepared for business symposium and slowly nearing towards the six weeks where assignments pile on. As we prepare, the first task was to shake hands with ten different people. While this was a much more awkward and ominous situation last year, this year it felt much more comfortable and truly depicted how much we have transgressed as individuals throughout this course.

In addition, the interview this week with Dr. Mansour, a surgical oncologist, was by far one of my most favorite interviews. The insight he gave was like no other. From his stories to the pictures he showed me during the interview, it was all immensely fascinating. His words were powerful and he described how surgery is the feeling that one day you feel as if something you have done changed a person’s life for the better and another day you might feel as if something may have went wrong partially because of you. The dichotomy is fascinating and truly puts into perspective the life of a doctor in a field like surgical oncology.

Overall, the past week has been running smoothly with many things to do and many things coming our way. Now it’s just a matter of scheduling mentor visits and see where this year takes me.
