The Best is Yet to Come

The culmination of all work brings out its best interest when the work benefits others.

Weekly Report 2/5/18 to 2/11/18

The final product date is approaching which requires knowledge on what exactly we are going to do as our final product. This week I reached out to the other ISM student working under Dr. Braga to see if we had any similarities in our interest for final product. The final product proposal rough draft deadline was on Friday. The idea that has been created as of right now is to do a clinical study on stem cells and regeneration of spinal degeneration or healthy tissue lost in brain tumor surgeries. The purpose of this clinical study is essentially to get a better understanding of the effectiveness of stem cell research. After reaching out to the other ISM student, she proposed two ideas of either creating a video on the five levels of a study or conducting a case study and submitting it for publication. The publication ideas seemed very similar to my idea on the clinical study; however, I am not aware of what she wants to conduct the clinical study over. The concern as of right now is that it has been two weeks since I was supposed to receive an email on the observer’s application and everything detailed under that. Over the past week, emails have been sent following up with the status on the health checkups and requirements to get credentialed; however, details are still unclear as to what has to be done.

Despite the concern of being able to start mentor visits in a timely manner, the past week has also been devoted to the original work speech. The difficulty is in consolidating all the information into a somewhat brief synopsis. I have been working on the powerpoint for the presentation in terms of the aesthetics of the powerpoint as well as the content. The difficulty has truly been in making the presentation interesting without lacking in content or going overboard in the amount of content to the point that the audience gets bored with the speech. My goal is ultimately to get the information across in an interesting manner and reevaluate my public speaking skills by ensuring that I improve from every other experience. The common areas that need to be worked on include the speech with which I speak, tone of voice, gestures, and the hook of the presentation.

We have been given a slight relief period; however that should give us more time to make sure that we get ahead in terms of assessments and other work following up to the final product deadlines. The workload will increase quickly which gives more of a reason to pick up the pace in terms of getting work done.
