"Sometimes a change in perspective is all it takes to see the light"

Weekly Report 9/17/18 to 9/23/18
Looking at at something with value can be superficial, but going beyond that and finding perspective gives meaning to life. The past couple of weeks have been tough and it has required an immense amount of struggle to overcome hurdles that have stepped in my way. With college applications, Girl Scouts, research, and school work, it has been vital to keep an optimistic perspective. As we delve further into the school year, it has been increasingly difficult to balance out all the events coming up in the next few weeks.
With business symposium approaching next week, we have been working on our resumes, handshakes, and professional speech to profess ourselves in the most polite manner. The resume was a build off of last years with some refinement in terms of color along with additions of a few other accomplishments made over the past year. Most of the past week has been a reiteration of last year’s focus and this year continues to be a building on that foundation.
Furthermore, I had my second interview with Dr. Qureshi who is a pediatric surgeon at Children’s Medical Center Dallas. His perspective was far different from doctors previously interviewed. It was relieving to see a doctor who was spontaneous and did not have his life planned out meticulously, but still ventured on to be successful. Personally, I have always been the person to plan out each and every aspect of life, but that doesn’t take away from my spurs of spontaneity. Dr. Qureshi was also the most direct out of every doctor interviewed thus far with his straightforward comments about how hard medical school and the journey there really is. He said “it’s not easy” and while that is frightening, it inevitably brings up a challenge to look forward to in the future. My biggest takeaway from each interview is the advice they give and for him it was to “read, read and read” which is crucial to getting acquainted with the profession of a physician. The journey is never easy and never will be; however, paving your destination there is vital to success in any field. Not only that, but he was also very practical about balancing out a personal and professional life. All in all, the whole interview gave greater insight into perspective and how every person’s perspective changes the way they approach something despite the fact that it may be the same exact task.
Overall, the last couple of weeks have been hard and I have been relentlessly working towards my goals. The journey is difficult, but all it takes is a positive perspective to go about a difficult situation in an optimistic way.
