Almost to the Finish Line. Yet, this is just the beginning to a new journey!

Weekly Report 4/23/18 to 4/30/18
The past couple of weeks have been thoroughly dedicated to final product. Dr. Braga said at out last meeting that it would not be the most feasible idea to conduct a clinical study as that requires an experimental process which may be unethical. Instead, Dr. Braga proposed two ideas that align with what my final product proposal already states. He is currently conducting two research papers that are an analysis of multiple chiari surgeries since the 1990s in order to find a correlation between fusion surgery and the reduction of inflammation. The other option is to look at the progression of chiari and the development of a syrinx due to myelomeningocele.
As of right now, Dr. Braga has forwarded me an article that he is currently writing on the fusion surgeries and their impacts on inflammation. The next few weeks should be spent reviewing the articles that Dr. Braga has forwarded to me. The research will progress as I get a better idea of the structural changes that occur in a patient with chiari malformation. The following weeks will be dedicated to conducting further research on chiari in order to construct a brief research summary including an abstract, materials, results, conclusion, and discussion. The ultimate goal is to get both the paper published next year along with other projects for next year’s original work and final product.
Overall, the progression of final product is going well even if it is not following exactly what my initial calendar said. The research is progressing, but has slowed due to upcoming AP tests. However, the next couple of weeks should be simultaneously dedicated to both AP Tests and ISM final product as FPN is quickly approaching. As we wind down to the final couple week of school, its high time to finish up final product!
