Dig deep because you don't know what mysteries await you. The world is shrouded unsolved mysteries. It just takes a fresh eye to notice them.

Weekly Report 9/10/18 to 9/16/18

It’s not often that opportunities come to your doorstep. It requires work, effort, and dedication to initiate the preliminary steps to something big. It truly is just the beginning to a journey of many hidden treasures to unfold.

The past week has been mostly dedicated to research and scheduling interviews to begin to unfold what original work will constitute of. Over the summer, AVMs were introduced prior to an AVM surgery which was the primary reason research was conducted over the malformation. The relatively rare condition is something that requires vast research prior to having a clear understanding of how arteriovenous malformations are treated. The condition also proposes a plausible idea for original work since AVMs are often conditions that are overlooked or not found until much later in a patient’s life despite the condition being congenital. Dr. Braga and Dr. Price deal with AVMs so the feasibility of making this idea a reality is very possible.

In addition, we created our resumes this week which is inevitably one of the first steps to creating a professional portfolio to begin interviews. The resume was fairly similar to last year with a few additions and some aesthetic changes. The format stayed relatively the same; however, some layouts were changed. With this, we also created ten interview questions that were specific to each field of interest. Within the next few weeks, there are three interviews that I have to prepare for with a surgical transplantations, a pediatric surgeon, and an oncologist. I am eternally grateful to be able to work with so many different specialities and get an idea of how multiple subspecialities correlate to each other.

The next few weeks look forward to begin compiling information from research and interviews into an idea for original work. As of right now, original work could gear towards traumatic brain injury or AVMs along with the Chiari malformation paper that could possibly get published. It won't be long before the prime time of ISM approaches.
